Time in the CISO seat
A completed tenure, in this record: a person appointed to the top security seat at a company, later followed by that same named person's own departure from it, both dated to the day. This is what our record shows, not an industry-wide average, and it is capped by our own coverage window.
Basis: 0 completed tenures out of 22 departures on record · computed 2026-10-08 · free to cite with attribution
No move in the record yet pairs an appointment and a later departure of the same named person at the same company with day-level dates on both. Most departures on the Wire are of people appointed before our coverage began, or precede this page's launch; most appointments on the Wire have not yet been followed by that person's departure. This page will fill in as the record covers full tenures start to finish.
Method: a tenure counts only when our record has both a dated appointment and a dated departure for the same named person at the same company, and both dates carry day-level precision (week- or month-precision records are excluded so no count implies a false precision). Seats still filled, still vacant, or where the record lacks one half of the pair are not counted. The CISO Tribune record reaches back to January 2023, so this undercounts long tenures that started earlier and understates short ones that both began and ended before our coverage, and will fill in as the record ages.
